  • Description

All I Really Need To Know I Learned In Kindergarten is a collection of essays by the author on various subjects including life, death, holidays, and childhood.

    Summary Of The Book

All I Really Need To Know I Learned In Kindergarten contains the author’s personal thoughts on topics such as life and how to live it.

When this collection of essays was first published fifteen years ago, it went on to become a popular book on understanding the simple rules and pleasures of life. Its title has been taken from the title of the first essay in the collection. Besides this essay, it contains the author’s articles on subjects like Mother Teresa, death, and childhood.

All I Really Need To Know I Learned In Kindergarten is not a self-help book or a personality development manual. It is simply a narrative of the author’s thoughts, gathered from his vivid life experiences. He has led an interesting life, being a religious minister at one point of time and a bartender at another. This wide range of experience has allowed the author to write on a number of different subjects. But the focal idea conveyed through the first essay defines the book and its author's basic philosophy. This idea suggests that despite the seeming complexities present, life is actually quite simple.

Fulghum lists down certain rules and some basic wisdom that children are taught at the kindergarten level. According to him, these simple rules hold true throughout life and are more useful than all the knowledge that a graduate school education can impart. The absurdly simple rules are the fundamental principles for a good and happy life.

Some of these kindergarten rules to live by include don't hit another person, play fair, clean up your own mess, put things back in their place, share with others, apologize for any hurt caused, do not take other people's possessions, take a nap in the afternoon, live a balanced life, and never cease to wonder.

All I Really Need To Know I Learned In Kindergarten asserts that these simple rules still hold meaning even when the child that learnt them reaches adulthood. This edition is a new one and it contains twenty-five fresh essays.
