Nalla Neram  (DVD Tamil)

Released in 1972, this extremely entertaining film is directed by one of the more popular directors of that era, M.A.Thirumugam. This movie, Nalla Neram stars one of Tamil film industry’s most famous actor-turned-politician and an undeniable screen legend, Maruthur Gopalan Ramachandran or M.G.R as he has affectionately come to be known.

Nalla Neram is a remake of the 1971 super hit Hindi film Haathi Mere Saathi which had one of India’s most admired leading men, Rajesh Khanna. Following the main plot of the Hindi film, Nalla Neram, literally translated as Elephant My Partner, has a story that revolves around the lead character, M.G.R and his relationship with the the animals of the zoo that he works for, but mainly with one particular elephant. The story deals with all the important aspects of love, betrayal, murder and revenge, all the while heavily involving the elephants.

The film also features one of Tamil film industry’s earliest considered divas, K.R.Vijaya and has a very enjoyable set of musical numbers provided by the famous music director, K.V.Mahadevan. With a truly awesome cast along with an entertaining and enjoyable plot, Nalla Neram is a sure hit among an audience of all ages.
