Annemarie’s life may seem very normal, but there are many dangers surrounding her. When her best friend is in danger with German authorities, Annemarie decides to help her.
Summary of the Book
Annemarie’s life is fairly normal on a daily basis. She goes to school, has a loving family and reads fairy stories with her baby sister. However, there is a lot that needs to be worried about. There is always a food shortage, curfews and Nazi soldiers are all over the place. The German authorities getting ready to get rid of all the Jews from Denmark. During this time, Annemarie’s Jewish best friend, Ellen, is in danger. If Annemarie gathers enough courage, her best friend can escape and survive the misfortune. The story is inspired by many events that took place during the Second World War.

She is known for writing about difficult subject matters, and has explored subjects like racism, terminal illness, murder and the Holocaust. She has won two Newbery Medals for her books Number the Stars and The Giver. The Giver is a book that has explored issues of questioning authority.
