In Old Path White Clouds, Buddhist monk and peace activist, Thich Nhat Hanh, retells the life story of Buddha in his unique and inimitably beautiful style.

    Summary of the Book

Old Path White Clouds introduces readers to the life and teachings of Gautam Buddha. The author draws inspiration from varied sources including 24 Pali, Sanskrit and Chinese sources to trace Buddha’s life and teachings over the course of eighty years. This beautiful classic recounting of his life has be retold partly through the eyes of the buffalo boy, Svasti, who provided Buddha with kusa grass and partly through the eyes of Buddha himself. Old path White Clouds is an essential and riveting read for those who want to know about the life and teachings of Gautama Buddha.

Excellent Introduction to the Path of the Buddha

This book is an excellent introduction to the Buddha. This is the one book which makes you see the Buddha as a person. We get to meet all the great disciples and access all the great teachings on a first person basis. Listening to the words of the teacher in his own voice. In the manner that it was taught. We get to meet a Buddha who is human, we get to meet him getting old, getting aches in the body, playing the flute to a group of young men. In all these points in the book, the poet that is...

    A gem of a book

Thich Nhat Hanh's is one of the best known authors on Buddhism and this book is an example of his exceptionally wonderful writing skills. Once I started reading, I just couldn't keep the book away because it is so engaging and engrossing. There are so many books on this topic and many of them tell the history very well but this book actually takes you through the paths and periods of Buddha. Thai (Thich Nhat Hanh's ) made many of the esoteric teaching simple and easy to understand. The book...

    Poetic!!

It is a beautiful book, full of graceful prose and and poetic description. A genuine biography of the Buddha it is a life story inter-weaved with buddhist teachings.
I would however warn the reader... you need to be calm, peaceful and in compassionate mind to truly enjoy this book. A typical cynical mind of today will not get the underlying peace of the read without at first calming itself.
