  • Description

Persepolis is an autobiographical graphic novel by Marjane Satrapi.

    Summary of the Book

Marji is a young girl in Iran during the Islamic Revolution. Society quickly morphs into an orthodoxy, where the veil is a compulsory garment for women and secular education is quickly banned. Marji believes that she can solve these problems by becoming a prophet at the age of six. She recalls the teachings of Zarathustra and the Zoroastrian holidays she once enjoyed with her parents. She watches events like the overthrow of the Shah, the success of the Islamic Revolution and the destructive effects of the war with Iraq. Through a young girl’s eyes, readers are drawn into a portrait of life in Iran. Marji’s narrative brings out the sharp contrast of life at home and life in public, and the black and white art further strengthens the contrast. This is a story of growing up in a country where grim reminders of war hang around people’s lives like black curtains cutting off any sunlight.

    A MUST READ

As a young woman in free India brought up in J&K - i have seen the religious wars - and how unnecessary they are - the immigration of people from one state to another - reading marjane's story on iran on a larger scale - only makes one realise how similar humans are everywhere... and the way she puts it across.. creatively, smartly, with wise words put oh so casaually that really educates and entertains the reader.. a must read for everyone..

    Fantastic book

Great book that works at multiple levels. Marajanne portrays the life in nation of Iran, with brilliant satires on the Hypocrisy of the ruling elite. She is throughly Persian but with a twist in the thought process being liberal due to liberal upbringing.

    Highly recommended book.

People who like this kind of narrative can also try 'Kabul Disco' by Nicolas Wild.

    6 Stars!

Apart from the content of the book I must say that the delivery was awesome by Flipkart. The seller did a perfect job. I got it delivered the next day I ordered. Now coming to the content of the book, Marjane Satrapi is an awesome writer to begin with. She wrote about the typical realities about the Iranian society with a very light touch of humour. I bet you will not be dissatisfied after reading this book and will remember for a long long time just like me. Cheers. :)

Persepolis. My sister recommended this and oh my goodness, such a nice treat for yourself! Read it when you are bored, read it in flight, or just read it because you just can't keep the damn book down! Perplexing and mesmerizing. This books gets your facts right and really makes you think about things you probably have never thought of before. Everything Marjane does, says is so very logical and so very true to what she is. I have read so many autobiographies and they just talk about how they...

One of the best books ever written

An intelligent and touching book written with great wit and humour. After reading, I cannot imagine the same book written without graphics, it would have not done the justice to the story. It is a great read for even the non-reader and it is a very important book for anyone. This one is undoubtedly a timeless classic.

    unputdownable

Marjane Satrapi is Iran's very own Anne Frank.Loved this book, could not put it down.It gives a vivid and interesting historical account of Iran and its neighbouring places with comic twists amidst tragedies.A lot can be learnt through the eyes of the innocent Marji.I had a whale of a time with her adventures .The beautiful sketches speak a lot. This book contains both the Persepolis books in the series.I just wish the size of the print was bigger & there was another book in the series to look ...

    Good choice

    Persepolis (my experience) ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Though I don't like the adult version of Marjane and it is really unfortunate for an autobiography but still I'm giving this novel 4 stars because I thoroughly enjoyed the book.

I like baby Marjane. she was sweet, smart, independent. Except for the main character, her parents and grandmother were so modern. In those circumstances how much freedom Marjane gets, it's impressive.

Though I found Marjane selfish, still one should not judge anybody except bein...

A:It’s the complete book. Depends on individual book sellers, some editions are costlier. Check if it’s a paperback or a hardback. The latter are more expensive generally. You can buy this one though.
